Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.54%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.54%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T: 9107 ), which rose 6.92% or 350.0 points to trade at 5410.0 at the close. Nippon Yusen K.K (T: 9101 ) added 5.16% or 380.0 points to end at 7750.0 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (T: 4503 ) was up 4.41% or 81.5 points to 1931.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Inpex Corp. (T: 1605 ), which lost 8.30% or 81.0 points to trade at 895.0 in late trade. Aeon Co., Ltd. (T: 8267 ) declined 6.08% or 169.0 points to end at 2610.5 and Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd (T: 5019 ) shed 5.89% or 190.0 points to 3035.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1822 to 1677 and 224 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 25.72 a new 3-month high.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 1.69% or 1.31 to $76.12 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.99% or 0.80 to hit $80.28 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.28% or 4.95 to trade at $1766.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 111.29, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 128.71.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 94.140.
