Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.02%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.02%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T: 4568 ), which rose 2.84% or 200.0 points to trade at 7244.0 at the close. Aeon Co., Ltd. (T: 8267 ) added 2.77% or 62.0 points to end at 2302.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T: 4689 ) was up 2.76% or 12.0 points to 446.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T: 5202 ), which lost 6.82% or 51.0 points to trade at 697.0 in late trade. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ) declined 3.56% or 34.0 points to end at 922.0 and JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ) shed 3.21% or 58.0 points to 1747.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2405 to 1184 and 221 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 13.52.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.35% or 0.21 to $60.23 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.21% or 0.14 to hit $66.00 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.51% or 7.60 to trade at $1488.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.05% to 109.38, while EUR/JPY rose 0.00% to 121.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 97.240.
