India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.94%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate , Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.94%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.89%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK ), which rose 2.93% or 33.45 points to trade at 1176.00 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS: LART ) added 1.82% or 32.45 points to end at 1817.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS: ULTC ) was up 1.26% or 92.45 points to 7446.65 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS: APSE ), which lost 7.74% or 57.75 points to trade at 688.10 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS: ITC ) declined 5.60% or 13.35 points to end at 225.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS: ONGC ) shed 4.43% or 7.00 points to 150.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which rose 2.94% to 1175.45, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO: LART ) which was up 1.92% to settle at 1817.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO: ULTC ) which gained 1.11% to close at 7441.95.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO: ITC ) which was down 5.54% to 225.20 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO: ICBK ) which lost 4.39% to settle at 798.65 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO: KTKM ) which was down 4.05% to 2098.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1411 to 348 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2184 fell and 916 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.45% to 17.9125.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 1.25 to $1800.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.97% or 1.63 to hit $81.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.78% or 1.49 to trade at $82.38 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.23% to 74.891, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 86.8655.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 93.847.
