FPI Investment Hits 9-Month Peak in May, Streak Extends to June

By Malvika Gurung

Investing.com -- Foreign investors have made a noteworthy investment in Indian equities, touching a nine-month high in May 2023 and extending its infusion streak for the third straight month.

FPIs invested a net amount of Rs 43,838 crore in domestic equities for the month of May 2023, the highest level since August 2022, when the investment sum stood at Rs 51,204 crore.

In the first two trading days of June, FPIs have managed to invest a total of Rs 6,490 crore, as per NSDL data.

Experts have attributed the recent surge in FPI investments primarily to strong domestic macroeconomic fundamentals, reasonable valuation of Indian stocks and a good earnings season which signifies improved growth prospects going forward, among other factors.

In the first two months of the calendar year 2023, FPIs debited more than Rs 34,000 crore. They infused a total of Rs 7,936 crore in the month of March and another Rs 11,630 crore in April 2023.

Thanks to sustained buying by FPIs in May, the benchmark index Nifty jumped 2.07% last month.
