By Malvika Gurung

The three major indices of Wall Street ended on a mixed note on Tuesday, putting an end to its four-day upward run. The gains were led by travel and energy companies, magnified by some mega-cap companies.

The recent statement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reduced the recommended isolation time for citizens with asymptomatic cases of COVID-19, in an attempt to minimize disruptions. As a result, investors are appearing to shrug off the threat of the Omicron variant’s effect on the economy.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.56%, Dow Jones advanced 0.26%, and S&P 500 ended 0.1% lower on Tuesday.

Stocks across the Asian markets opened lower on Wednesday, tracking mixed cues on Wall Street, while concerns regarding the rising Omicron cases and tighter policies eclipsed the rally on Wall Street.

At 8:05 am on Wednesday, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.44%, while South Korea's KOSPI was down 0.92%, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 1.02%.
