Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.68%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Materials , Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.68%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX: WTE ), which rose 5.91% or 1.02 points to trade at 18.27 at the close. Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ) added 4.47% or 2.19 points to end at 51.19 and ECN Capital Corp (TSX: ECN ) was up 4.03% or 0.19 points to 4.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: FR ), which lost 12.01% or 2.08 points to trade at 15.24 in late trade. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX: PAAS ) declined 11.74% or 5.68 points to end at 42.71 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ) shed 10.28% or 1.11 points to 9.69.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 565 to 523 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 5.44% or 110.50 to $1919.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.98% or 0.41 to hit $41.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.51 to trade at $44.48 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7514, while CAD/EUR rose 0.41% to 0.6405.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 93.683.
