Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.57%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT , Energy and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.57%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX: ELD ), which rose 31.00% or 3.10 points to trade at 13.10 at the close. Altus Group Limited (TSX: AIF ) added 7.09% or 3.15 points to end at 47.59 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) was up 6.96% or 0.27 points to 4.15 in late trade.

Biggest losers included CCL Industries Inc (TSX: CCLb ), which lost 17.06% or 9.74 points to trade at 47.35 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX: TECKb ) declined 15.62% or 2.67 points to end at 14.42 and Enerflex Ltd . (TSX: EFX ) shed 14.30% or 1.42 points to 8.51.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 624 to 427 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.59% or 25.75 to $1646.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.04% or 0.56 to hit $53.32 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.58% or 0.94 to trade at $58.37 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.33% to 0.7566, while CAD/EUR fell 0.25% to 0.6975.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 99.250.
