Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.52%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.52%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX: LAC ), which rose 7.05% or 1.95 points to trade at 29.60 at the close. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX: TECKb ) added 6.45% or 2.01 points to end at 33.16 and Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ) was up 5.10% or 7.94 points to 163.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Interfor Corp (TSX: IFP ), which lost 5.71% or 1.65 points to trade at 27.25 in late trade. Canfor Corporation (TSX: CFP ) declined 4.39% or 1.20 points to end at 26.13 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ) shed 4.00% or 0.53 points to 12.72.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 579 to 440 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 10.60 to $1805.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $70.44 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.10 to trade at $73.61 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.7879, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6676.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 92.642.
