Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.33%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy , Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.33%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ), which rose 8.68% or 0.54 points to trade at 6.76 at the close. Aphria Inc (TSX: APHA ) added 6.24% or 0.470 points to end at 8.000 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX: ELD ) was up 5.53% or 0.90 points to 17.18 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Enerplus Corporation (TSX: ERF ), which lost 5.62% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.52 in late trade. Parex Resources Inc (TSX: PXT ) declined 5.06% or 0.74 points to end at 13.88 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) shed 4.86% or 0.320 points to 6.270.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 559 to 495 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.75% or 33.85 to $1895.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.95% or 0.77 to hit $40.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 0.73 to trade at $42.45 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7613, while CAD/EUR rose 0.43% to 0.6482.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 93.517.
