Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.28%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy , Materials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ), which rose 3.98% or 0.38 points to trade at 9.93 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX: CJRb ) added 3.59% or 0.11 points to end at 3.17 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX: TECKb ) was up 3.49% or 0.66 points to 19.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ), which lost 5.83% or 0.25 points to trade at 4.04 in late trade. Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX: EDV ) declined 4.56% or 1.77 points to end at 37.08 and Teranga Gold Corp (TSX: TGZ ) shed 4.09% or 0.63 points to 14.77.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 662 to 397 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.83% or 16.45 to $1954.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.17% or 0.87 to hit $41.03 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.61% or 1.10 to trade at $43.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.24% to 0.7606, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6421.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 92.898.
