Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.27%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare , Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX: LB ), which rose 5.02% or 1.91 points to trade at 39.95 at the close. Altus Group Limited (TSX: AIF ) added 4.26% or 2.91 points to end at 71.14 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX: OSK ) was up 3.16% or 0.12 points to 3.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ), which lost 5.48% or 0.710 points to trade at 12.250 in late trade. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX: LSPD ) declined 5.18% or 3.02 points to end at 55.25 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ) shed 5.11% or 0.29 points to 5.39.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 571 to 394 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.48% to 14.57.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.32% or 5.65 to $1782.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.52% or 0.37 to hit $71.31 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.39 to trade at $74.81 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.7861, while CAD/EUR fell 0.20% to 0.6950.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 96.085.
