Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.09%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy , Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cineplex Inc . (TSX: CGX ), which rose 12.70% or 1.67 points to trade at 14.82 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ) added 9.67% or 2.640 points to end at 29.950 and Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX: CCA ) was up 5.58% or 5.52 points to 104.51 in late trade.

Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ), which lost 8.53% or 1.25 points to trade at 13.40 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) declined 7.69% or 0.040 points to end at 0.480 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX: GOOS ) shed 6.61% or 1.95 points to 27.55.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 560 to 472 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.39% or 6.65 to $1717.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.92% or 0.63 to hit $33.44 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.47% or 1.20 to trade at $35.80 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.12% to 0.7261, while CAD/EUR fell 0.75% to 0.6554.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.59% at 98.472.
