Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.47%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT , Financials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.47%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ), which rose 9.94% or 1.87 points to trade at 20.68 at the close. Cargojet Inc (TSX: CJT ) added 8.09% or 18.15 points to end at 242.55 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX: HBM ) was up 7.43% or 0.45 points to 6.51 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX: AUP ), which lost 10.88% or 2.23 points to trade at 18.26 in late trade. Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ) declined 7.56% or 4.16 points to end at 50.84 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) shed 6.37% or 1.46 points to 21.45.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 646 to 343 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.78% or 14.70 to $1907.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.66% or 0.98 to hit $37.79 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.36% or 0.92 to trade at $39.89 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.7593, while CAD/EUR fell 0.12% to 0.6489.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 93.580.
