Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.33%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy , Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.33%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ), which rose 13.38% or 2.50 points to trade at 21.18 at the close. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX: SNC ) added 8.15% or 1.75 points to end at 23.21 and Enerplus Corporation (TSX: ERF ) was up 6.92% or 0.24 points to 3.71 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Real Matters Inc (TSX: REAL ), which lost 5.21% or 1.34 points to trade at 24.38 in late trade. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX: CJRb ) declined 4.45% or 0.13 points to end at 2.79 and Semafo Inc . (TSX: SMF ) shed 2.98% or 0.140 points to 4.560.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 617 to 408 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 3.00 to $1783.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.99% or 1.15 to hit $39.64 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.17% or 0.89 to trade at $41.82 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.17% to 0.7319, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6511.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.463.
