Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.11%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.11%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: HUT ), which rose 13.82% or 1.010 points to trade at 8.320 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) added 9.92% or 101.98 points to end at 1129.72 and Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX: CTS ) was up 7.37% or 0.715 points to 10.415 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX: AIF ), which lost 8.78% or 5.01 points to trade at 52.03 in late trade. Parex Resources Inc (TSX: PXT ) declined 4.62% or 1.31 points to end at 27.07 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX: INE ) shed 4.40% or 0.81 points to 17.60.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 684 to 335 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.96% to 22.58.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.21% or 3.80 to $1807.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.17% or 1.96 to hit $92.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 2.16 to trade at $93.27 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.54% to 0.7843, while CAD/EUR fell 0.65% to 0.6848.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.430.
