Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.08%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare , Industrials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.08%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX: APHA ), which rose 12.34% or 1.980 points to trade at 18.020 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) added 11.94% or 1.720 points to end at 16.130 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ) was up 10.64% or 1.40 points to 14.56 in late trade.

Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: FR ), which lost 22.95% or 6.54 points to trade at 21.96 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ) declined 18.61% or 3.50 points to end at 15.31 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ) shed 16.97% or 1.76 points to 8.61.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 657 to 376 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.39% or 25.90 to $1838.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.20% or 1.18 to hit $54.73 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.04% or 1.15 to trade at $57.48 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.35% to 0.7807, while CAD/EUR rose 0.69% to 0.6495.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 91.198.
