Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.99%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials , Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.99%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX: APHA ), which rose 11.95% or 0.820 points to trade at 7.680 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ) added 9.84% or 2.09 points to end at 23.34 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) was up 7.32% or 0.270 points to 3.960 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX: BBU_u ), which lost 3.19% or 1.26 points to trade at 38.24 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) declined 2.91% or 0.62 points to end at 20.67 and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX: SNC ) shed 2.78% or 0.68 points to 23.80.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 603 to 452 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.89% or 35.90 to $1933.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.80% or 0.33 to hit $41.62 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.20 to trade at $43.98 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.7486, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6372.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.78% at 93.642.
