Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.79%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.79%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ), which rose 8.33% or 0.17 points to trade at 2.21 at the close. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ) added 7.31% or 0.68 points to end at 9.98 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ) was up 6.39% or 0.32 points to 5.33 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX: AIF ), which lost 4.08% or 2.65 points to trade at 62.28 in late trade. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX: GOOS ) declined 3.72% or 1.84 points to end at 47.64 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) shed 2.49% or 0.49 points to 19.20.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 546 to 462 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.69% or 12.55 to $1794.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.22% or 2.27 to hit $72.73 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.66% or 1.96 to trade at $75.56 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.49% to 0.7915, while CAD/EUR rose 0.44% to 0.6701.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 92.502.
