Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.60%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials , Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.60% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ), which rose 6.85% or 1.09 points to trade at 17.00 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ) added 5.91% or 0.130 points to end at 2.330 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX: WTE ) was up 5.84% or 1.09 points to 19.76 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Rogers Communications Inc (TSX: RCIb ), which lost 4.57% or 2.97 points to trade at 62.08 in late trade. Spin Master Corp (TSX: TOY ) declined 3.74% or 1.37 points to end at 35.22 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ) shed 3.01% or 2.64 points to 85.11.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 637 to 442 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.86% or 14.95 to $1745.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.40% or 0.26 to hit $64.54 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.43 to trade at $67.96 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.29% to 0.8054, while CAD/EUR fell 0.23% to 0.6732.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 91.487.
