Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.52%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials , Consumer Discretionary and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.52% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX: FM ), which rose 8.02% or 2.22 points to trade at 29.90 at the close. Canaccord Genuity Group Inc (TSX: CF ) added 6.41% or 0.83 points to end at 13.78 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) was up 5.84% or 1.42 points to 25.72 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX: TRQ ), which lost 15.12% or 2.89 points to trade at 16.23 in late trade. Village Farms International Inc (TSX: VFF ) declined 3.58% or 0.36 points to end at 9.70 and New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ) shed 3.43% or 0.060 points to 1.690.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.65% or 29.70 to $1768.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $81.73 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.84 to trade at $84.84 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.02% to 0.8084, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6970.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 93.960.
