Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.45%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials , Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.45% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ), which rose 5.02% or 0.280 points to trade at 5.860 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) added 5.35% or 1.42 points to end at 27.95 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ) was up 4.52% or 0.07 points to 1.62 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ), which lost 11.24% or 2.15 points to trade at 16.97 in late trade. OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX: OGI ) declined 5.84% or 0.23 points to end at 3.71 and Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) shed 5.03% or 1.20 points to 22.67.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 611 to 415 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.09% or 20.40 to $1893.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.02% or 0.70 to hit $69.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.45 to trade at $71.76 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.26% to 0.8282, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6806.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 90.127.
