Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.44%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.44%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ), which rose 7.64% or 0.21 points to trade at 2.96 at the close. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ) added 6.18% or 0.60 points to end at 10.31 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX: KNT ) was up 6.17% or 0.51 points to 8.78 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ), which lost 14.53% or 1.03 points to trade at 6.06 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) declined 12.33% or 0.46 points to end at 3.27 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ) shed 11.06% or 0.48 points to 3.86.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 524 to 499 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.17% to 25.04.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.96% or 17.78 to $1,865.58 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.41% or 0.45 to hit $109.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.13 to trade at $110.65 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR fell 0.76% to 0.73.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 101.77.
