Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.43%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT , Utilities and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.43%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TSX: MEG ), which rose 16.15% or 0.47 points to trade at 3.38 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX: WTE ) added 10.05% or 1.46 points to end at 15.99 and Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) was up 9.09% or 0.045 points to 0.540 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Winpak Ltd. (TSX: WPK ), which lost 9.11% or 4.48 points to trade at 44.70 in late trade. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TSX: WFT ) declined 4.86% or 1.90 points to end at 37.17 and Pason Systems Inc . (TSX: PSI ) shed 4.43% or 0.31 points to 6.69.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 641 to 410 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.12% or 2.10 to $1715.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 20.60% or 4.20 to hit $24.59 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 14.45% or 3.93 to trade at $31.13 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7118, while CAD/EUR rose 0.90% to 0.6565.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 99.840.
