Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.41%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.41%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ), which rose 9.71% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.13 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ) added 9.06% or 8.11 points to end at 97.60 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX: SES ) was up 7.53% or 0.42 points to 6.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX: STLC ), which lost 6.70% or 2.43 points to trade at 33.84 in late trade. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX: CJRb ) declined 4.29% or 0.12 points to end at 2.68 and Trisura Group Ltd (TSX: TSU ) shed 3.74% or 1.35 points to 34.78.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 488 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.82% to 20.65.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.63% or 10.85 to $1,706.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.75% or 1.53 to hit $88.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 1.21 to trade at $94.38 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.76.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 109.36.
