Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.31%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities , Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.31% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ), which rose 12.79% or 0.610 points to trade at 5.380 at the close. Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ) added 10.14% or 0.15 points to end at 1.63 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ) was up 8.36% or 0.90 points to 11.67 in late trade.

Biggest losers included AcuityAds Holdings Inc (TSX: AT ), which lost 13.23% or 2.300 points to trade at 15.090 in late trade. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ) declined 5.49% or 0.52 points to end at 8.95 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ) shed 5.59% or 0.30 points to 5.16.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 621 to 420 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.75 to $1729.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.46% or 2.74 to hit $58.71 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.07% or 2.64 to trade at $62.22 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.38% to 0.7983, while CAD/EUR rose 0.02% to 0.6762.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 92.615.
