Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.30%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Healthcare and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.30% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ), which rose 9.78% or 0.220 points to trade at 2.470 at the close. MAG Silver Corp (TSX: MAG ) added 7.31% or 1.07 points to end at 15.70 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: FR ) was up 6.64% or 0.98 points to 15.73 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX: KXS ), which lost 2.25% or 2.33 points to trade at 101.27 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX: IFP ) declined 1.93% or 0.29 points to end at 14.75 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ) shed 1.88% or 0.16 points to 8.37.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 581 to 417 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.05% or 15.70 to $1504.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.01% or 0.61 to hit $61.13 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 0.81 to trade at $67.20 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7594, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.6850.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.255.
