Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.28%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms , Consumer Discretionary and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX: ATZ ), which rose 13.13% or 2.57 points to trade at 22.15 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) added 4.18% or 0.92 points to end at 22.94 and ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX: ATA ) was up 4.15% or 0.71 points to 17.83 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TSX: APHA ), which lost 17.57% or 1.355 points to trade at 6.355 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) declined 4.61% or 0.275 points to end at 5.685 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ) shed 2.36% or 0.24 points to 9.93.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 301 to 272 and 79 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 4.25 to $1911.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.10% or 0.04 to hit $41.00 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.35% or 0.15 to trade at $43.17 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.54% to 0.7564, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6461.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 93.817.
