Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.21%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Clean Technology , Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.21%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ), which rose 13.45% or 1.77 points to trade at 14.97 at the close. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ) added 8.77% or 0.57 points to end at 7.07 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) was up 8.27% or 3.44 points to 45.04 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX: FVI ), which lost 3.89% or 0.38 points to trade at 9.40 in late trade. Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX: TRIL ) declined 3.46% or 0.67 points to end at 18.69 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX: MAG ) shed 3.17% or 0.75 points to 22.93.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 602 to 405 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.45 to $1840.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.01% or 0.53 to hit $52.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.99% or 1.09 to trade at $55.84 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.7854, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6480.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 90.507.
