Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which rose 4.97% or 8.84 points to trade at 186.60 at the close. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 3.46% or 1.16 points to end at 34.66 and Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT) was up 3.08% or 0.27 points to 9.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb), which lost 5.20% or 1.84 points to trade at 33.56 in late trade. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP) declined 4.98% or 0.81 points to end at 15.46 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) shed 4.37% or 0.100 points to 2.190.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 546 to 462 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.16% or 2.85 to $1777.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.10% or 1.30 to hit $63.21 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 1.12 to trade at $66.15 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.02% to 0.8065, while CAD/EUR fell 0.05% to 0.6672.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 90.877.
