Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.16%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Clean Technology , Healthcare and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TSX: ITP ), which rose 76.08% or 16.95 points to trade at 39.23 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) added 15.33% or 2.00 points to end at 15.05 and Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ) was up 14.88% or 8.41 points to 64.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TSX: TCLa ), which lost 8.46% or 1.71 points to trade at 18.51 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) declined 5.08% or 36.50 points to end at 682.14 and Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX ) shed 4.59% or 3.17 points to 65.91.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 581 to 513 and 66 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.04% to 19.93.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.83% or 56.40 to $2,052.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.94% or 4.71 to hit $124.11 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.16% or 5.13 to trade at $128.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.46% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR fell 0.88% to 0.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 99.08.
