Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.12%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy , Consumer Discretionary and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.12%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX: TRIL ), which rose 6.57% or 0.86 points to trade at 13.94 at the close. Lundin Gold Inc (TSX: LUG ) added 5.11% or 0.48 points to end at 9.87 and Linamar Corporation (TSX: LNR ) was up 5.00% or 3.82 points to 80.29 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Centerra Gold Inc (TSX: CG ), which lost 5.77% or 0.72 points to trade at 11.75 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX: TECKb ) declined 5.88% or 1.59 points to end at 25.46 and Equitable Group Inc. (TSX: EQB ) shed 3.68% or 4.86 points to 127.19.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 629 to 446 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.45% or 7.75 to $1740.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.63% or 1.58 to hit $61.58 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.21% or 1.40 to trade at $64.68 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.8000, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6718.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 91.948.
