Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.10%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy , Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.10%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX: ARX ), which rose 6.59% or 1.18 points to trade at 19.08 at the close. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX: AAV ) added 6.34% or 0.65 points to end at 10.90 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX: NVA ) was up 6.16% or 0.69 points to 11.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ), which lost 12.44% or 1.07 points to trade at 7.53 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) declined 7.89% or 0.37 points to end at 4.32 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) shed 6.80% or 0.92 points to 12.61.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 580 to 455 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 35.41% to 10.21.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.30% or 5.90 to $1,980.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.45% or 0.48 to hit $106.86 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.75% or 0.84 to trade at $112.54 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.79, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 100.78.
