Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.05%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.05%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Capstone Mining Corp (TSX: CS ), which rose 4.67% or 0.25 points to trade at 5.60 at the close. Village Farms International Inc (TSX: VFF ) added 4.65% or 0.39 points to end at 8.78 and Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (TSX: FFH ) was up 4.37% or 25.95 points to 620.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Boyd Group Income Fund (TSX: BYD ), which lost 2.83% or 5.82 points to trade at 199.50 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX: LAC ) declined 1.59% or 0.59 points to end at 36.60 and Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) shed 1.44% or 26.45 points to 1813.55.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 534 to 321 and 126 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.58% to 13.94.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.01% or 0.25 to $1810.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.32% or 0.96 to hit $73.72 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.08 to trade at $76.52 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7807, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6904.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 96.035.
