Market Action - Last Week (22-Apr-19 to 26-Apr-19)
Nifty continued to trade in a range of 300 points last week. From the last 4 weeks, Nifty has been trading in a range of 11550 to 11856 ahead of election result due on 23rd May. However, CNX Small Cap index underperformed by falling 1.71% vis-à-vis compared to Nifty which remained flat by closing 0.02% higher this week.
Sector Analysis:
Amidst a volatile market this week, the only positively performing sector is Cement & Cement Products (+0.11%). All other sectors like Energy oil and Gas, Banks(Private and PSU), IT, etc which were rallying since 19th February ended in red this week showing a slight correction which can be a good buying opportunity if market sustains at higher levels. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) which rose by 8.22% this week was the top performing stock in the Cement sector which overall rose by 0.11%. Among the Minor sectors, Sugar is the only performing sector which gained 3.81% this week. Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd (NS:UTSM) and DCM Shriram (NS:NS:DCMS) are among the top performer in the sector.
Open Interest Analysis:
FII & PRO are the major players in the Derivatives segment and have an upper hand in the market and their position provides direction to the market. In the April month expiry, they have started with the position of 67472 contracts in Index option (both FII & PRO combined) when Nifty spot was trading at 11570. On 26th April they have created a long position of 61757 contracts and had Net sell Open Interest position of (-17794) contracts for the May expiry.
