2 Smallcaps MFs are Buying Aggressively!

  • Stock Market Analysis

When picking up good stocks for the portfolio, some investors also look at the shareholding pattern of the respective company to gauge the institutional holdings which builds confidence. In case you come in the same category, here are 2 smallcap stocks from the Nifty Smallcap 100 index that witnessed the highest MF holding increase in the last 6 months.

BSE Limited

BSE Ltd (NS: BSEL ) is the oldest stock exchange in Asia, having a market capitalization of INR 31,630 crore. Technically it has now become a midcap firm after a 390% return in the last one year but since it’s still in the smallcap index, I have included it here. The exchange has seen its financials turn around after the aggressive foray into the options market.

Revenue which stood at INR 927.7 crore in FY22 jumped to INR 1804.2 crore on a TTM basis. Net income rose multifold from INR 254.3 crore to INR 762.5 crore, and such a stellar performance is also being reflected in a gigantic rally in the share price.

Mutual funds are also noticing the growing trend of investors’ participation in India and consequently increased their stake from 0.16% in the June 2023 quarter to 7.8% in the December 2023 quarter, the highest stake purchase in the entire Nifty Smallcap 100 index.

Computer Age Management Services Lt (BO: COMU ) or simply CAMS is a mutual funds transfer agency. It provides investor services, distributor services and asset management companies (AMC) services, having a market capitalization of INR 15,279 crore.

The company has grown its net income at a 5-year CAGR of 14.4% which is not bad. It also gives dividends and currently trading at a yield of 1.2%, and raised its payouts for 4 consecutive years, all thanks to ProTips for the insight. Because it caters to AMCs, the growing trend of investors' inclination toward equity markets via SIPs, new account openings, etc. makes it a good beneficiary.

Mutual funds increased their stake by 7.56% in two quarters ended 31 December 2023, from 3.69% to 11.25%. In fact, a massive 47.68% of the stake is with FIIs and they have only increased it QoQ since March 2023.
